Granada Episode List

For everyone's future reference :) I keep mine in a notebook (I call it my Holmes Notebook - I wrote my entire rough draft of the Gold-Engraved Box in there, plus a bunch of blog post rough drafts and notes from an SH computer game my sister and I played :D) and put a little checkmark by the ones I have seen. Which...I've seen a lot, believe me. lol

And for those who don't know - Granada is the creator of the series with Jeremy Brett. You probably hear me (and Grace) talking about him quite a lot...he's our favorite actor who has portrayed Holmes on TV as of yet...he's irreplacable, in my honest opinion.

These are in order of their air date, I believe...don't quote me on that though :D Each episode is 1 hour long...unless I specify (there are 5 full-length movies :D)

The Mazarin Stone (JB is only in this one for about...2 minutes - he was too sick to film. Mycroft and Watson solve it - this story is combined with the Three Garridebs. It's a little weird..but well done nonetheless.)
The Cardboard Box

They would've kept going, but the Cardboard Box was finished and released in April of 1994 - JB died September of 95...his health was declining rapidly. So...yeah. He was super sick. And only 61 :(

Anyway, enjoy the list, I hope it's helpful :D

  1. The solution would be to find another actor. :-D Heresy I know. :-)
By the way, one last request and then I'll stop, no really. :-)
Could post your story altogether, so I don't have to hunt throught the old posts.

  2. lol! As I said, JB was/is irreplacable. I'm glad they didn't find another...that would have greatly annoyed me, I'm not one for switching actors in the middle of a series :D

As for the story...I would, except for the fact that it's nearly 30 pages long :| There are only 5 parts though, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. I will look for links and post them all in the same post uptop, so people can find them easily, if that'll help...

  3. yeah that would be great. :-) Isn't that a little long for Holmes short story? :-D And yeah switching actors would have been horrible. No seriously. :-)

  4. Oh! I didn't know that "the Last Vampyre" was a Holmes movie! I saw it on the list of stuff at our library with JB, and I saw the name and thought: "Oh, that sounds funny!" and completely disregarded it. btw, 'vampyre' is way cooler looking then 'vampire', this I have observed for a very long time. Anyway, I should check that out from our library now that I know it's a Holmes thing. :)

Replacing JB would've been terrible!! Because Jeremy Brett is like no other... B-)

  5. Last Vampyre is the worst episode, imho. :P Some really gruesome moments.

  6. @Amy - I suppose so...but, if you think about it, the non-novels (lol) in the canon are not super short either...mine are several pages, with very fine print. *shrugs*

@Mary - Yup, tis. I haven't seen it though...I personally, out of all the movies I *have* seen, liked The Master Blackmailer best...I don't know why, because they did stretch it a lot...but I laughed a lot. lol And yes, vampyre is better than vampire, imo.

@Marian - That's interesting. I did hear that they changed the storyline a lot, and there's more supernatural stuff in it than normal...

  7. I really like The Master Blackmailer, too! :) And The Sign of Four...I wasn't too impressed with Hound of the Baskervilles. But the scene where Holmes and Watson first meet Milverton is brilliant.

  8. I've only seen The Sign of Four, as far as the movies go. :( I rather enjoyed it. :)

  9. @Marian - Yes, and I also love where he was in disguise...my favorite quote of the whole movie was the "We plumb the depths" part. I about died laughing, it was so funny :D

I did like the Hound of the Baskervilles but I was a little disappointed with it overall...I think I expected more, seeing as it's one of the most popular Sherlock Holmes stories.

@Mary - I did like the Sign of Four too, that was the first movie I watched. It was pretty good, except for that you can *really* tell that the dead brother was fake :D hehe He looked like a dummy. heh

  10. @Bre- I think he was like a wax figure or something lol...but I was wondering after watching it why during the parts while that brother was alive (the flashbacks and whatever) that he hardly talked or moved...so I have the theory of them using the dummy/wax person for when he was alive and dead. idk...just a poorly backed-up "deduction" =P

Random: has anyone read The Beekeeper's Apprentice? With Mary Russel and Holmes? I just finished it and really enjoyed it, and am ordering the next 3 books. :) Yeah, just throwing that out there to see if anyone else has read it.

  11. Mary - I read that, I liked it a lot, but refuse to read the rest. You should ask Grace about the others, I think she's read one or two of the others...but I'm not going to tell you why I refuse, that would spoil it for you (I already know what happens, hehe)

  12. I read it. But I can't STAND Mary Russell.

    :P

I read one or two of the Larry Millett books as well, but those weren't so good, either.

  13. This list is excessively helpful. Now I won't keep losing that email, Bre. =D I...l-l-like...M-m-ary...R-r-r-ussell...don't hurt me! In the first few books, she does rather bash one over the head with her whole I'm-a-strong-intelligent-feminist-woman-who-is-smart-back-off thing. Maybe I'm just biased because she's six feet tall. Or maybe I'm just replacing Mary Russell with myself and therefore don't care about her personality problems. =)

  14. I don't really know if I like Mary Russell or not...I'm 50-50 on it. I'm really not sure...lol She's fairly tolerable, I suppose, but there's something about her that I like and don't like. (Not sure exactly *what* I dislike, but something.)

I think I do know what happens that causes your refusal to read the others, Bre. (I know, I shouldn't get books spoiled for myself by finding out everything important that happens. But, I'm proud of myself for not looking ahead in the Beekeeper's Apprentice to find out who the bad person was. =P) Anyway, yeah, I'm still going to read the rest. :)

I agree with your statement of her bashing-ness, Grace. So true, so true.

  15. Haha, for the record...when I read the Beekeeper's Apprentice, I replaced Mary with myself because at the time I read it I had not yet turned 16 :D heh Lame reason I know, but who doesn't want to meet Sherlock Holmes? So I kinda liked the first book, like I said, but if I had kept reading I think I would have gotten really annoyed and ruined my image of Mary from the first one :D hehe

I think part of it, Mary, is that Russell is too much like Holmes. I think it...errr...kinda detracts from his specialness, to know that there's another person EXACTLY like him. That was kind of what bothered me...it was the strong similarities. I don't think it would've been so bad if she had been very different from Holmes, but she wasn't. lol Not saying that's the reason but it's my theory. heh
