The Baker Street Irregulars

A sometimes overlooked, but incredibly vital, part of Holmes' information network are the Baker Street Irregulars. Generally young waifs on the streets of London, the Irregulars can get into almost anywhere and observe almost anything.

I wonder, did the Irregulars know or guess the magnitude of their assignments? Did they realize the genius they were working for? Or were they only in it for the shillings it might garner?

Such are my musings, but, whatever the level of information or appreciation the boys may have known or felt about Sherlock Holmes, it is quite certain that Holmes' work would have been considerably less efficient without their valuable assistance.

The Dancing Men

I had to laugh when I ran across these photos someone posted on holmesian.net
Holmes explaining how he deciphered the code made up of dancing men...and showing live examples!

Oh how I love Jeremy Brett.

Haha...

Took a Sherlock Holmes quiz last night and thought I would post my results right now.

It basically tells you which character you would be from the canon...

I had to laugh. My number one result was Mycroft :D

Why? I have no clue.

But, my number two result was Sherlock. So that made me feel better, apparently the computer thinks I'm really smart if they put both brothers as my first two characters :) And they look like the same percentage, though there aren't any numbers.

Number three was Watson...

Number four was Irene Adler (!?) lol

Number five was Lestrade (haha)

Number six was Wiggins (lol...)

And then numbers seven and eight were Moriarty and Mrs. Hudson. But I don't have a percentage for those :)

Missing Tooth!!

Hah! Did I grasp your attention yet?

Yes, I said 'Missing Tooth.' And I said it for a reason.

While skimming the Holmes stories this morning for a reasonable and worthwhile blog post topic, I ran across this tidbit from "The Empty House"

.:. "My collection of M's is a fine one," said he. "Moriarty himself is enough to make any letter illustrious, and here is Morgan the poisoner, and Merridew of abominable memory, and Mathews, who knocked out my left canine in the waiting-room at Charing Cross, and, finally, here is our friend of to-night." .:.

However did we miss this, the first time, and even the second time through the canon? And, for some reason, I really cannot picture Holmes missing his left canine. I mean, be honest...

Any thoughts?

Holmes' (my) Thoughts on Essays

I don't like proposal essays. You know my methods, Watson, and they do not involve proposal essays. They involve no essays. My methods rock in their lack-of-essay-ness. It's all elementary! ELEMENTARY!

Holmes Trivia 1

Ok. If you've read a majority of the Holmes stories, you probably know that Holmes has a brother. I'm going to ask some questions about this brother, and I expect you to answer them to the best of your ability :D This brother's name is Mycroft Holmes. Remember, NO INTERNET. And ONLY use the book if you absolutely need to.I want this to be challenging :D

1. In which Holmes mystery do we first meet Mycroft Holmes?

2. Is Mycroft older or younger than Sherlock, and by how many years?

3. Where does Mycroft work, and how much money does he make in a year?

Alright, that's all for round one. Please post your answers in the comments section...and after a few days I will check the answers and let you know how you did :D

Holmes Trivia: Intro and Rules

Well, I haven't posted anything in a very long while. Which is very unfortunate. Because...the last thing I posted was the end of my story, and that was a VERY long time ago. I have failed. Epically.

So, I decided that, instead of a normal blog post, for right now I will do something called..Holmes Trivia :D Hopefully it will encourage all of you wonderful people who follow this blog to stay here until I can remember to post at least once a week :) Heh...well, interactivity is always a good thing, right?

Ok, this is how it works: I'm going to post 3 questions in each one of these trivia posts. You have to answer them. The only rule is, NO GOOGLING. Seriously. That's major cheating. But they will be different degrees of difficulty..ranging from very easy to VERY hard (hopefully :D) THe topics will range anywhere from Holmes' life to questions about the canon, even to actors who have portrayed him. And everywhere in between. And if you get bored, please inform me. I hate to bore people. It goes against my nature.

So these are the rules. If ever you forget, please refer to this post. I will start a new one with the first questions later this afternoon, perhaps sooner.

I hope you enjoy this...
