This is going to be slightly short, because we ended up being gone all day and it's getting late...but here's the second installment of my set of three posts.
I really, really want to know:
Why are we so fascinated by this incredibly intelligent detective?
What are the reasons?
There's obviously something that makes us love him and his cases...or perhaps several somethings, grouped together.
Perhaps it's because he has such a dry, ironic sense of humor. I love his humor, he makes me laugh all the time, be it straight from the canon or through Jeremy's incredible interpretation of the man.
And maybe it's because he is so intelligent. I can speak for myself (and I'm sure many others) when I say that I tend to be more drawn to men who are intelligent. *shrugs*
I must leave now, but what are some reasons why you are so fascinated with Holmes?

what both fascinates me and makes me hate him (but not very much, it only makes me like Wimsey better :-D) is that he can solve cases in the blink of an eye, and Watson (who I love by the way, there is just something about Watson) is still trying to figure out what Holmes even saw.
ReplyDeleteWhat I dislike BTW is that we don't have the prior knowledge of Holmes, and we can't see all the clues he does. This makes it impossible to solve, but I love reading the parts where he tells us his solution. :-)
that was long...oh well, that will teach me to post before in 8 in the morning. :-)
Yes, Bre, I also generally prefer intelligent males. lol
ReplyDeleteI think he is a very interesting case to think about in the area of physcology...his cocaine addiction, his general untidyness, his locking-ins or whatever you wish to call them, his mannerisms, his abilities of observance and deduction, and just everything that he does and stuff...it's quite interesting. Really. :) It is most fascinating...
Oh, forgot to say that the conclusion of my above opnion is that he is unique, in a good way, and that makes us like him and be fascinated by him. :)
ReplyDeleteHe's smart, he's cool, he's tough. He's unique, eccentric. He stands up for innocent people. He's a bit arrogant, but he often acts unselfishly and will go to great lengths to help people in need. He's unromantic, usually very sensible, and dedicated to his job. You can trust and depend on him.
ReplyDeleteIn short, he's really a geeky, Victorian, knight-in-shining armour kind of a guy; which, combined with his brilliant detective skills, is probably why he's my favourite character, ever. :)
@Mary - I'm glad I'm not the only one! lol
ReplyDelete@Marian - That's a really lovely description of him! You'll make me fall in love with him all over again :D
I'm glad to hear what you all have to say about this...it's really interesting to see what other people have to say :)
Marian that's a beautiful description...thanks, I just fell in love with him again. :-)
